What makes Scaly Safari a little different

Apollo - our stunning Brazilian Rainbow Boa

There are lots of wonderful ways to experience animals — and lots of brilliant people bringing that joy to schools, events, and families across the UK.

Scaly Safari simply offers a very particular kind of experience.

One that’s calm, considered, and deeply rooted in a love of all things scaly.

A specialist approach

We are not Feathery Safari. We are not Fluffy Safari.

We are specialists in reptiles — entirely by design.

Reptiles are endlessly fascinating, often misunderstood, and unlike anything else people encounter in everyday life. Our work is built around sharing them properly: with knowledge, patience, and genuine respect for what makes each species (and individual) unique.

If your heart is set on fluffy and familiar animals, there are some fantastic providers who focus on exactly that (and we’d be happy to point you in the direction of the ones we’re connected with).

Our passion lies elsewhere — and that’s where we shine.

Thoughtfully curated

At a Scaly Safari session, you won’t meet dozens of animals.

Instead, you’ll meet a carefully chosen collection — animals selected not for numbers, but for the quality of the experience they create.

This allows time for curiosity, conversation, and connection. Rather than rushing from one animal to the next, people are invited to slow down, notice details, and really engage.

The Scaly Safari Crew

Our animals aren’t anonymous or interchangeable — and they aren’t from the zoo.

They are our own personal pets, each with their own name, temperament, and routines. They live full lives outside of Scaly Safari, and only take part in sessions that suit them and their wellbeing.

We know and understand each animal deeply — how they like to be handled, when they’re happiest interacting, and when they’d rather stay quietly in their enclosure.

For guests, that means they’re not just meeting a species.

They’re meeting an individual — and experiencing what respectful, relationship-led animal care really looks like.

What ‘highly curated’ means to us

When we talk about our collection being highly curated, we mean intentional.

Every animal is with us on purpose:

  • chosen for calm temperament and suitability for educational settings

  • selected for handleability and welfare

  • valued for their natural beauty and presence

Many of our animals are rehomes, which means we wait for the right animals to come to us rather than building a collection quickly.

The result is a group of exceptional examples of remarkable species — animals people are unlikely to encounter anywhere else.

Proudly scaly, intentionally focused

There are many lovely animals in the world, and many ways to enjoy them.

Our focus is on reptiles and other exotic species — animals that most people only ever see in books, documentaries, or behind glass. Meeting them up close can be surprising, awe-inspiring, and quietly transformative.

Scaly Safari is for people who are drawn to that experience:

  • depth over spectacle

  • expertise over volume

  • calm over noise

  • curiosity over rush

We don’t try to be everything to everyone.

We simply do what we do — carefully, thoughtfully, and with a great deal of love for the animals in our care.
