Maybe you didn’t think you’d ever be a reptile parent - and yet, here you are (with one side-eyeing you from the corner of the room as you read this).

Maybe your child has been asking for months about getting a scaly companion, and you’ve been on the fence because you’re not quite sure what’s involved in caring for one (and you know it will probably end up being you doing most of it).

Maybe you’re secretly excited about bringing a snake or lizard into your home, but you’ve never done it before, and it all feels a bit unfamiliar.

However you’ve ended up here, reptile ownership is an incredible thing to step into - and it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to stay on top of.

Allen and Cerries from Scaly Safari with Merlin the bearded dragon

We created ScalySidekick because we’ve been there.

We’re Allen & Cerries - founders of Scaly Safari, and legal guardians of over thirty species of exotic animals.

We might know the difference between a thermostat and a heat mat now, but we were beginners once too.

We remember what it felt like to realise you’re suddenly responsible for a reptile’s care - and the mild panic that comes with not really knowing what you’re doing.

We’ve come a long way since then (and made plenty of mistakes along the way), but we still speak to new reptile owners every week - and the same thing comes up again and again: that feeling of overwhelm, and the need for reassurance that the basics of daily reptile care are being covered.

And that’s why we created ScalySidekick - it’s the calm companion we wish we’d had when we first stepped into reptile ownership.

How it works

ScalySidekick is already set up for some of the most common pet reptiles and amphibians - including bearded dragons, royal pythons, leopard geckos, crested geckos, corn snakes, tortoises (Horsfield and Hermann’s), and horned frogs.

That means the daily reptile care checklist and guidance are tailored to your animal from the start, so you don’t have to work out what should be included.

More species are being added over time, but if you’ve got one of these, you’re good to go.

Reptile care app showing a daily checklist for feeding and essential tasks

A simple daily reptile care checklist

The Today tab gives you a short, simple daily reptile care checklist - already set up for your reptile, so you don’t have to work out what needs doing.

You tick things off as you go, and it resets each day, so there’s nothing to track or keep on top of long-term.

You can switch between animals easily, and add your own daily tasks if you need to - just enough flexibility (and accountability) without turning it into a system.

It’s a simple way to stay on top of your reptile’s care, without overthinking it.

Reptile care app with task list for reminders like feeding and habitat maintenance

Stay on top of one-off reptile care tasks

The To Do tab is there for everything that doesn’t happen every day - things like changing a bulb, picking up food, or any of those reptile care tasks you don’t want to forget, but don’t need sitting in your head all the time.

You can add tasks as they come up, tick them off when they’re done, and keep everything in one place instead of scattered across notes, reminders, or mental lists.

It’s not trying to organise your whole life. It just gives those one-off or occasional jobs somewhere to live, so they’re easy to keep track of as part of your reptile care routine, without becoming overwhelming.

Reptile care app showing animal profiles with photos and details for multiple reptiles

Organise your reptiles in one place

The Animals tab is where everything is set up for each of your reptiles, so you can keep all of their care details in one place. You can create a simple profile for each one, add a photo, and switch between them easily when you need to.

Things like age update automatically in the background, so you’re not having to keep track of it yourself. If anything changes, you can edit or remove profiles at any time — it’s all flexible and easy to adjust.

It’s a simple way to keep your reptiles organised, so each animal has what it needs without adding any extra effort to your daily reptile care routine.

Reptile care app journal for tracking behaviour, feeding, and notes with photos

Keep a simple record of your reptile’s behaviour

The Journal tab gives you a simple place to note things as you notice them. Whether it’s something about behaviour, feeding, shedding, or just a quick photo you want to keep, it all lives in one place as part of your reptile care notes.

You can tag entries so they’re easy to come back to later, but there’s no pressure to keep it perfectly organised. It’s there when you want to jot something down - not something you have to keep up with.

Over time, it becomes a handy record of your reptile’s behaviour and day-to-day care, without you having to think too much about it.

Reptile care app showing temperature, humidity, and feeding guidance for reptiles

Reptile care basics, at a glance

The Reference tab is there for those quick moments where you just want to double-check something. Temperatures, humidity, feeding guidance — the key parts of your reptile care, laid out simply and specific to your reptile.

You don’t have to go searching or second-guess what you’re looking at. It’s all there in a clear, easy-to-read format, so you can check what you need and move on.

Nothing in-depth, nothing overwhelming — just the essential reptile care information, exactly when you need it.

Reptile care app support chat for getting help and advice from experienced reptile keepers

Real support, when you need it

If something doesn’t feel quite right, you’re not left to figure it out on your own. You can message us directly - not a chatbot, not a forum - just two real people who understand reptile care, what you’re looking at, and what might be going on.

Sometimes it’s a quick question. Sometimes it’s just wanting a second opinion so you can stop going round in circles. Either way, we’ll help you make sense of it and feel confident in what to do next (and if we don’t know the answer, we’ll point you in the right direction of someone who can).

It’s a bit like having us in your back pocket.

You don’t need to get everything perfect. Most of the time, it’s just about knowing you’ve done enough for the day. ScalySidekick gives you a simple way to stay on top of things — without overthinking it.

If that feels like it would help, you can start straight away. (And it’s totally free).

Free to use. No subscriptions, no hidden costs.
