At Scaly Safari, we believe encounters with animals should feel calm, respectful, and unhurried.
We work with reptiles and invertebrates not as spectacles, but as living beings — each with their own temperament, boundaries, and needs. Our sessions are designed to invite curiosity without pressure, and connection without coercion.
You don’t need to be fearless. You don’t need to touch anything. You’re simply invited to meet what’s in front of you, at your own pace.
That belief shapes everything we do — from the animals we work with, to the way we design our experiences, to the quiet atmosphere we intentionally create.
Our approach
Animal welfare comes first — always.
Every animal we work with is carefully chosen for their temperament and suitability for public sessions. We prioritise calm handling, short interaction times, and plenty of rest, and we adapt each session in response to the animals present on the day.
Handling is always optional. Observation is always welcome.
We don’t rush interactions, encourage bravado, or push anyone — human or animal — beyond their comfort. If an animal needs a break, the session shifts. If someone prefers to watch from a distance, that choice is respected completely.
Our role is not to perform, but to facilitate safe, thoughtful encounters — ones that leave both people and animals settled, not overstimulated.
Who we are
Scaly Safari is run by Allen and Cerries, based in North Wales.
We’ve lived with and cared for reptiles and invertebrates for years, and in 2024 we began sharing that experience more formally through Scaly Safari — bringing animals into schools, care settings, events, and private bookings.
Our work is shaped by close, hands-on care and a deep respect for the animals we work with. Over time, we’ve learned that the most meaningful experiences don’t come from spectacle or volume, but from patience, consent, and attention.
We are strongly family-orientated in our approach, and mindful that not everyone arrives confident or comfortable. Everything we offer is designed to feel safe, considered, and unpressured — for people and animals alike.
Scaly Safari isn’t about impressing people with animals.
It’s about creating the conditions where curiosity can replace fear, and understanding can grow naturally.
What you can expect
Every Scaly Safari session is designed to feel calm, contained, and thoughtfully paced.
We work with small groups where possible, adapt to the needs of the people and animals present, and allow sessions to unfold naturally rather than to a script. There’s no pressure to be brave, no expectation to participate, and no rush to “get through” the animals.
Some people choose to watch quietly. Some ask questions. Some build confidence slowly over time.
All of that is welcome.
We don’t offer high-energy shows or performance-led experiences. Instead, we focus on creating space for curiosity, respect, and genuine connection — always led by the wellbeing of the animals and the comfort of the people in the room.
This means our sessions may feel different from what you expect — and that’s intentional. They’re designed to leave people settled, not overstimulated, and to create moments that linger long after the session ends.
