UP CLOSE

For the child who doesn't just like reptiles. They’re their thing. A private, one-to-one keeper experience built entirely around them.

Based in North Wales, working across the UK

Expect the unexpected.

When we entered the room, James was hunched over in the corner of the room - completely disengaged.

His parents explained that nothing makes him smile these days. “Since his diagnosis, he has lost interest in everything”, his mother told us. “All he wants to do is sit in the same place every day, staring into space. It’s breaking our hearts”.

He ignored us when we arrived, fixated on a crack in the wall. We never force anyone to participate, so we gave him his space, and continued interacting with the other children in the room.

It was Sprout - our acrobatic crested gecko - that caused something to shift.

Slowly, James shuffled across the floor to the edge of the group. No-one said a word, but we exchanged knowing glances with his parents.

As Sprout started to climb up his arm, the widest smile stretched across James’ face. Despondency dissolved into mesmerisation, and as he giggled and laughed, we saw the tears in his mum’s eyes.

“The children and adults haven’t stopped talking about the party, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish we could repeat the day all over again!” ~ Claire

“I felt confident enough to hold a tarantula, which I hadn’t expected at all!” ~ Casey

“They far exceeded our expectations, and somehow even managed to convince me that snakes aren’t so scary after all!” ~ Harry

Something real, in an artificial world.

Children have never had more information at their fingertips. But knowing what a green iguana looks like isn't the same as standing beside one.

There is something different about seeing an animal breathe. Watching it eat. Noticing how it moves. Asking a question because something has just happened right in front of you.

Real animals create real curiosity.

That's what we want to make space for — the kind of fascination that sends a child home wanting to know more, understand more, and perhaps care a little more deeply about the natural world.

No screens. No filters. No performing animals.

Just a chance to stop, look closely, and discover something extraordinary.

The animals come first

Their welfare isn't something we think about after we've planned an experience. It's where we start.

Every Scaly Safari experience is shaped around the animals taking part — from who comes with us and how they're transported, to handling, rest, temperature, choice and when an animal simply isn't available that day.

We don't believe a good animal experience should come at the animal's expense.
