Up Close - Booking Terms & Conditions

1. About Up Close

Up Close is a private, personalised reptile experience provided by Scaly Safari.

Each experience is centred around one child or young person, with their immediate family welcome to attend with them.

Experiences last approximately 60 minutes and take place at Scaly Safari HQ in Rhyl, North Wales, unless otherwise agreed.

2. Booking and payment

The full price of £125 is payable at the time of booking.

Your booking is confirmed once payment has been received.

You do not need to select a session date when purchasing. We will contact you after booking, or when a gift recipient is ready to redeem their experience, to arrange a mutually suitable date and time.

3. Booking validity

Up Close bookings are valid for six months from the original date of purchase.

The experience must take place within this six-month period unless otherwise agreed by Scaly Safari in writing.

We recommend contacting us in plenty of time to arrange your preferred date, as availability cannot be guaranteed for particular days or times.

4. Gift booking

Up Close may be purchased as a gift.

Where requested, we will provide a personalised printed Up Close invitation and post it to a UK address supplied by the purchaser. UK postage is included in the experience price

A digital version may be supplied where requested or where there is insufficient time for a printed invitation to arrive.

Gift bookings remain subject to the same six-month validity period, beginning on the date of purchase rather than the date on which the gift is given.

The invitation itself has no separate monetary value.

5. Personalised experiences

We will ask about the child's interests before their visit and use this information to help personalise their experience.

Up Close does not include a guaranteed number or selection of animals, activities or interactions.

The exact content of each experience will vary according to the child's interests, the animals available and what is appropriate on the day.

6. Animal welfare

The welfare of our animals always comes first.

Purchasing an Up Close experience does not guarantee access to, handling of or interaction with any particular animal.

We may change, substitute or omit animals or activities at any time where we believe this is appropriate for animal welfare, health, behaviour or safety.

An animal will never be required to participate in an interaction simply because it was requested as part of a booking.

7. Feeding

Where an appropriate animal's normal feeding schedule coincides with an Up Close experience, there may be an opportunity to observe feeding.

Feeding is never guaranteed.

We will not alter an animal's feeding schedule or feed an animal unnecessarily for the purpose of providing an experience.

8. Children and supervision

A parent or responsible adult must remain present throughout the experience.

The accompanying adult remains responsible for the supervision and behaviour of any children attending.

Instructions given by Scaly Safari relating to animal welfare or safety must be followed at all times.

We reserve the right to adapt or end an interaction if we believe the behaviour of a guest is causing unnecessary stress to an animal or creating a safety concern.

9. Additional needs and accessibility

We want Up Close to be welcoming and enjoyable for as many children and young people as possible.

Please tell us before your visit about any accessibility requirements, sensory preferences, communication needs or other information that would help us adapt the experience appropriately.

We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate individual needs, subject to animal welfare, safety and the practical limitations of the venue.

10. Changing your booked date

Once a session date has been agreed, please contact us as soon as possible if you need to change it.

With at least 7 days' notice, we will normally move your booking to another available date within the original six-month validity period.

Where less than 7 days' notice is given, rescheduling will be at Scaly Safari's discretion.

Failure to attend an agreed session without prior notice may result in the booking being treated as used.

11. If Scaly Safari needs to change or cancel your experience

Occasionally we may need to change or postpone an experience because of animal welfare, illness, emergencies or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

If this happens, we will offer an alternative suitable date.

If Scaly Safari cancels the experience and we cannot arrange a suitable alternative, you will be entitled to a full refund.

If postponement by us causes the booking to pass its six-month validity date, we will extend the validity period appropriately.

12. Photography and video

Guests are welcome to take personal photographs and video during the experience where appropriate.

Photography or filming may be restricted during particular activities where we believe it could affect animal welfare or safety.

Scaly Safari will not photograph or film a child for promotional or marketing purposes without obtaining appropriate permission separately.

13. Health and safety

Interaction with live animals carries some inherent risk, including scratches, bites and allergic reactions.

Guests must follow instructions provided by Scaly Safari throughout the experience and should tell us before participating if there is anything relevant that may affect their ability to interact safely with the animals.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful for us to do so.

14. The Up Close Field Record

Each Up Close guest will receive a personalised Field Record as a keepsake.

Its design and contents may change from time to time and it has no monetary value.
